EFSCRJ’s Concerns on Threats to Civic Space and Attacks on Civil Society and the Media

EFSCRJ stands in solidarity with Gambia Participates and its Executive Director Marr Nyang following attacks over their recent election opinion poll. We welcome scrutiny and disagreement, but criticism must be evidence-based and not personal, abusive or designed to intimidate and discredit. Governments, political parties and their supporters must protect, not undermine, civic space. The answer to research we dislike is more research, not attacks on researchers. Democracy requires the freedom to question, debate and hold power to account.
