EFSCRJ Calls on Pres. Barrow to Rescind the Unconstitutional Appointment of Edi M.O. Faal as Chief Justice

EFSCRJ strongly condemns President Adama Barrow’s unconstitutional appointment of Edi M.O. Faal as Chief Justice while the tenure of Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow had not expired.

The appointment lacks transparency disregards the constitutional requirements under Section 139 and undermines judicial independence and the rule of law. We stand with The Gambia Bar Association and call on the President to immediately rescind the appointment. We urge the National Assembly, civil society, political parties and all citizens to defend the Constitution. No President or public official is above the law.
