EFSCRJ Election Watch Status Report – September 2026

EFSCRJ ELECTION WATCH RELEASES SECOND PRE-ELECTION ASSESSMENT REPORT

As The Gambia approaches the December 5 Presidential Election, EFSCRJ Election Watch raises serious concerns over hate speech, tribalism, xenophobia, abuse of incumbency, campaign financing, electoral transparency, and unequal state media coverage.
Our key recommendations include:

  1. Zero tolerance for hate speech, tribalism, and political incitement.
  2. End abuse of incumbency and misuse of public resources.
  3. IEC must proactively disclose voter-registration data and strengthen electoral transparency.
  4. IEC and IPC must act decisively against electoral misconduct.
  5. GRTS and The Gambia Info must provide fair and equitable political coverage.
  6. Political parties must ensure transparency in campaign financing and coalition agreements.
  7. Media houses must uphold professionalism, independence, gender equality, and inclusion.
  8. All presidential candidates must commit to a meaningful and enforceable electoral peace pact.

Elections must be a contest of ideas, policies, and leadership and not hatred, division, or intimidation.
