African Anti-Corruption Day 2026: EFSCRJ Calls for Integrity, Accountability and Political Will in the Fight Against Corruption

Integrity is the first line of defence against corruption.

As Africa marks African Anti-Corruption Day 2026, EFSCRJ reminds the Government and all Gambians that corruption remains one of the greatest threats to democracy, human rights, development, and national stability.

Three years after the Anti-Corruption Act, the Gambia still has no operational Anti-Corruption Commission. Reports by the National Audit Office, the National Assembly, commissions of inquiry, and police investigations continue to expose corruption, yet accountability remains the exception rather than the rule.

We call for a transparent and merit-based process to establish the Anti-Corruption Commission and for the full implementation of all findings and recommendations on corruption. The fight against corruption cannot succeed without political will, integrity, and accountability.

Integrity must become our national culture, and not merely our national aspiration.
